Rector:
Rector@stpetersfreehold.org

The Rev. Francis N. Hebert, "Father Frank," began his ministry as rector in February of 1995. His wife Susan sings in St. Peter’s Choir and daughters Anne and Julian were confirmed here.

Father Frank's background is in education, and after earning a B.Mus in Music Education he taught at the high school level for six years. He also holds an M.A.L.S degree in Literature and Arts. He graduated from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, California with an M.Div. degree, and was ordained deacon and priest in St. Paul's Cathedral in San Diego in 1987. His ministry began at Christ Church in Coronado, California where he served as curate. After serving for six years at Holy Trinity church in Wenonah, New Jersey he was called to St. Peter’s.

His ministry at St. Peter's includes preaching (most Sundays) and presiding at three services of Holy Eucharist, as well as leading the Sunday morning adult study program, the Bible Café. During the week his time is spent doing Pastoral Care in hospitals and homes as necessary, planning worship and special events, preparing couples for marriage or baptism, and teaching adult confirmation or other special classes. As the chief administrator of the parish he works closely with the staff and oversees their ministry so that the church’s programs can run smoothly. He also supervises the vestry, which is the lay leadership council of the church. In his work as priest and pastor every day is different, and brings its own unique challenges, joys, and blessings.

His hobbies include playing piano, reading, puttering in the garden, and walking his family's dog Domino, an English Pointer mix who is often found with him in the office at the church.

Deacon:

The Rev. Catherine Esposito joined St. Peter’s parish in June 2005, just after she was ordained a vocational deacon in the Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey. Before coming to St. Peter’s, Catherine was a member of Trinity Church in Matawan and the Diocesan liaison for Episcopal Relief and Development.

Until she decided to quit her job 17 years ago to stay home with her newborn son – the best job she’s ever had -- Catherine had a career as a marketing promotions manager. Since that time, she has held a number of part-time positions in retail, in substitute teaching, as an instructional assistant in a pre-school class; and as a naturalist in the Monmouth County Parks System.  She recently graduated from Rutgers University with a Master’s Degree in Social Work and looks forward to putting her new knowledge and skills to work with families and children.

Deacon Catherine lives in Matawan and shares her home with her husband Phil, her son Phillip, their 2 dogs, 3 cats and an assortment of dust bunnies. Catherine is a nature and animal lover, a sometime kayaker and an avid reader.

Catherine’s diaconal ministry has included a mission trip to El Salvador with the youth of the Diocese of New Jersey; another mission trip to New Orleans with a group of feisty women from St. Peter’s; and a leadership role in the Community Suppers program. She has also served as coordinator of the Freehold Clergy Association Emergency Housing Program and as coordinator of the Freehold Area CROP Walk registration and host site for 2009 and 2010. Her favorite ministry of all, however, is working with the youth of St. Peter’s in a variety of activities including “Wiggle and Worship,” acolyte and lay ministry training, and youth group.

Catherine is very grateful to have been called to serve at St. Peter’s. She has great affection for the people of St. Peter’s and for her colleagues in parish ministry.

Vestry:
Vestry is the leadership board of the Church, elected at an Annual Meeting by the members of the congregation. The Peoples’ Warden is elected to a one-year renewable term, and the Rector’s Warden is appointed by the rector, and usually servers two or three years. Vestry members serve three-year terms. Although the vestry’s duties are defined as relating to the financial and material well-being of the congregation, in reality, they provide leadership for many areas of parish life and ministry.
