It is with a great deal of excitement, renewed energy, and hope for our future, that the Wardens and Vestry of St. Peters Church embark with the parish in the process of Discernment.

Discernment is the name given by the Episcopal Church to the process of calling a new Rector.

Key to this process is prayerful consideration by church leaders and church members of exactly who we are as a church community and where we would like to go in the future. Soon, an interim Rector trained in assisting parishes with this process will be selected.

It's a very exciting time for all of us! To learn more about the process click here for a copy of a pamplet that the Diocese has provided.

The Vestry and Wardens of St. Peters are counting on parish members to be very involved in this process. A great way to be involved in discernment is to get more involved in one of the many ministry areas at St. Peters. Whether its the Outreach Suppers, the Worship Service, Sunday School, Altar Guild, the Thrift Shop, the Music Program, Helping Hands, the Youth Group, or any other program, you will have the opportunity to engage in active discussions with others at St. Peters regarding where you think we should be going!

If you have any questions, or want to get more involved in the process, contact any of the Vestry or Wardens.

Please keep St. Peters in your prayers as we embark on this journey for the next 300 years as the Body of Christ.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It brings me great joy to announce that Meg Tweten has accepted appointment to be Rector's Warden of St. Peter's Church, effective immediately.

Meg is a life-long Episcopalian and has been a member here for nearly twenty years. During that time, Meg has been active in many areas of ministry. She has taught Sunday School, served on the Christian Education Board, and chaired the Board for the Pre-School Learning Center. Several years ago Meg was on vestry and also served as Peoples' Warden for a one-year term. Currently Meg is an active member of the adult handbell choir the King's Peal, and she is co-director of the Altar Guild.

It is a great blessing to have a strong leader and devoted member of the parish taking over this responsibility during a time of transition. I know she will value your prayerful support in her ministry.

Faithfully Yours In Christ,

Seventeen years ago, in May of 1995, in a beautiful and moving service, I was instituted as the 36th rector of St. Peter’s Church. It was an honor to follow in the footsteps of so many who had served so faithfully in the ministry of Jesus Christ. Since then, we have been blessed to witness and participate in God’s work in many and varied ways: celebrating a three-hundredth anniversary, restoring our historic and beautiful building, beginning a soup kitchen, developing a varied outreach program that resulted in St. Peter’s Church being named as a Jubilee Ministry Center of the Episcopal Church, inaugurating a praise band and a concert series, sponsoring two of our own members for priestly ministry, and launching two other clergy in their own successful ministries. It has been a wonderful adventure.

Now it is time for a new adventure, and so I am writing to inform you that I am resigning as rector of St. Peter’s Church. I have accepted a call to be the rector of Christ Church, which is an Anglican/Episcopal parish in Mexico City. Founded in the 1870’s to minister to British and American expatriates, Christ Church has become an international and multi-cultural congregation that includes descendants of the original members as well as members from the US, the UK, Canada, Africa, and Australia. Some are temporary residents, working for international corporations and agencies, others for the diplomatic community; others are life-long residents who moved to Mexico ‘temporarily’ and, for one reason or another, remained and made their home in Mexico. There is also Spanish speaking congregation that I will pastor.

My last Sunday at St. Peter’s will be March 11. Please know as we anticipate the ending of one adventure and the beginning of another that my resignation is in no way related to the anxieties and difficulties this parish is currently facing. I have not been ‘forced out’ or ‘pushed out.’ The process that resulted in my new ministry in Mexico City has been unfolding for many months now; I am choosing to answer what I believe is God’s call on my life at this time. I sincerely hope that my departure will provide the opportunity for this parish to resolve certain issues in my absence more effectively than they could be if I were to remain. This will be my prayer for you, and, I hope, my final gift to you.

There will be much to be said, and many memories to be shared over these next few weeks. For now, let me close with this: I love you, and I count it one of my life’s greatest privileges to have been in Christ’s service with you these years.

Yours Most Sincerely,
